LEARN THE ART OF ARRANGING FLOWERS
Join Lauren and Louisina in their bright, flower filled studio and gain industry insight on sustainability and cutting-edge floristry design. In our relaxed studio environment, we will introduce you to the foundations of sustainable floristry with guidance on how to make three floristry designs using alternative mechanics with no floral foam.
Watch three in-depth demonstrations on how to create designs using alternative mechanics to floral foam and plastic; a tabletop wildflower meadow, a suspended installation and wild, garden-style bouquet. Learn how to create no-vessel, allusion pieces where the flowers look as if they are growing from where they have been placed. Discover the mechanics of creating designs without foam and learn about the virtues of locally sourced materials. Develop a sustainable approach to your existing floristry practice and discover how working seasonally and sustainably can take you on a new path.
We will begin the day with an overview of our tried and tested methods including a walkthrough of eco-friendly tools and materials, how to use them and where to source them from. We will host a discussion on the merits of using local-grown, seasonal flowers including an overview of the environmental impact of imported flowers and floral foam. Learn how to hydrate flowers using concealed containers, how to re-use vessels and discover the mechanics of creating designs without foam. During our demonstrations, we will walk you through how to consider materials, scale, colour, and method to create beautifully composed designs. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask lots of questions.
*Please note this session doesn't contain any practical floristry exercises. Participants will learn through watching three live floristry demonstrations, listening to informative presentations and taking part in discussions.
Our flower school near Glasgow delivers a programme of sustainable floristry classes and courses that celebrate seasonal flowers, combining the art of garden-style flower arranging with practical tuition on sustainable, foam-free mechanics. We provide support and inspiration in developing your own floral style and encourage you to develop confidence and flair by building your experience. By allowing yourself to be attuned to nature and its imperfections, your arrangements will in turn be more authentic and more beautiful. Our workshops always use our own farm-grown flowers. We don't use floral foam in any of our work or teaching.
