LEARN THE ART OF ARRANGING FLOWERS
A sustainable, garden-inspired floristry practice involves having a conscious awareness of your materials; knowing exactly where they came from and how they were grown or growing them yourself. Being attuned to those materials and the season and landscape that yields them requires listening, practice and experience. We have been designing flowers for 40 years and designing with the flowers we grow ourselves on our farm for 7 years. On this workshop we will share what we have learned throughout that journey as well as the principles of garden-inspired floral design that we follow and use in our own practice. We host our Cutting Garden events in the Spring, Summer and Autumn seasons to celebrate the unique charm and flavour of each of these times of the year and the flowers that characterise them. Join us for one or for all three! This series will help you to enhance your personal design style with sustainability, beauty and meaning at the forefront to create floral arrangements to truly love and admire.
We will begin with a visit to our flower field followed by a flower arranging session at our studio. On this workshop, we will cut flowers together on the farm before gathering in the studio and guiding you through how to condition them and how to put together a wild, garden-style vase design. We will also host a discussion on how to grow your own flowers in a small space sharing our tips and knowledge on what and when to plant. Following the farm trip we will return to the studio to demonstrate how to create a glass vase design using our freshly harvested seasonal flowers and foliage. Learn how to bring out the most striking elements, blend colours and add gestural, textured and focal flowers to create a loose and natural, just-gathered-from-the-garden look. On this workshop you will create a beautiful arrangement to take home, wrapped in tissue and your own glass vase and presentation box. The class will include a demonstration and walk through on technique, how to choose the right flowers for your vase and a discussion on how to grow develop your own productive, cutting garden on a small scale.
Guidance will be given on the construction of each design with plenty of opportunity to ask questions.
Our flower school near Glasgow delivers a programme of sustainable floristry classes and courses that celebrate seasonal flowers, combining the art of garden-style flower arranging with practical tuition on sustainable, foam-free mechanics. We provide support and inspiration in developing your own floral style and encourage you to develop confidence and flair by building your experience. By allowing yourself to be attuned to nature and its imperfections, your arrangements will in turn be more authentic and more beautiful.
Each participant will have an exciting and varied selection of our seasonal, farm-grown flowers and foliage to work with. Our workshops always use our own farm-grown flowers. We don't use imported flowers, floral foam or plastic in any of our work or teaching.
Delicious refreshments will be served to keep the creativity and energy flowing. All refreshments, materials, flowers, and the use of tools and sundries are included in the price of this workshop.
