BBC Gardeners' World, May 2024

In April, and what feels like a lifetime ago, the crew from BBC Gardeners' World came to film a feature on us and the work we were creating for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Being invited to be part of this evergreen institution of television is perhaps the biggest highlight of my career so far and mum and I's journey together. I am a fairly new watcher to Gardeners' World, having developed the notion to watch it during lockdown when we were stuck indoors. For me, it is a show that has been as much about practical gardening advice and inspiration, as it has been a balm through hard times, an oasis of ordinariness through the confusion of chronic illness, and a provider of little lessons in how to survive. I hadn't realised before how much this show meant to me. It was a really proud moment for both of us. It was the worst weather imaginable, as predicted, with torrential rain and gales, feeling very much like mid winter in April, still waiting for the Spring. But I believe this talented team captured something really special for us. Would you believe it took almost 10 hours to film 8 minutes of television! I have so much respect for those working in television, it is a complex outfit of tech, kit, people, and moving parts, and truly an eye opener to see it in action. The whole crew made us feel very special and looked after and I think it comes across just how relaxed we were with their direction. Thank you Gardeners' World for making these two gardeners very happy and for showing the world the special work we do in this little corner of Scotland.
